Shauna Sorensen
Dancer, Teacher, Choreographer
Dancer
I earned my BFA in Dance Performance and my BS in Marketing from The University at Buffalo. Growing up in Chicago I completed grades 1-5 of the Cecchetti Ballet graded syllabus, attended the Cecchetti Council of America International Summer School and have trained with Chicago based dance teachers Joel Hall and Homer Bryant.
Currently, I am collaborating with muralist Annabelle Popa on Shauna Sorensen and Dancers long term project, Gossamer. Gossamer is a live dance and art show. Each performance is different but has elements of improvisation, dancer/painter collaboration, and audience participation. We have been presented throughout Queens and have received funding from New York Foundation on the Arts, Queens Council on the Arts, and Flushing Town Hall. See my main page for more details and pictures and videos of upcoming performance.
I am a past member of In-Sight Dance Company, a Queens based contemporary dance company and I have also worked closely with Ginger Cox and her company LiNK The Movement. With In-Sight and LiNK I have had the opportunity to perform at The National Museum of Dance, with recording artists Jillette Johnson and The Paper Rain Coat, The Elian Summer Dance Awards, The Choreographer Canvas, The Queens Fringe Festival, New York's 60x60 Dance, Harkness Dance Center’s “Fridays at Noon”, and The Long Island City Arts Open. I am honored to have worked with so many talented dancers and to have been given so many wonderful dance opportunities while residing in NYC.
A few of my other credits include the burlesque show "The Vereration of Bettie Page" at the Walker Street Theatre, Choreographers Carnival with Synthesis Dance Project, Dancers Responding to AIDS, and backup dancer for singer Barry Brandon and LIVID Rock Band.
